Leviathan is unleashed! Revel in the Hive Fleet’s new mechanics

Hive Fleet Leviathan becomes the first Tyranid army to join Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge in the Warhammer Skulls 2023 demo currently available on Steam. As one of the major races in the Warhammer 40,000 universe and possibly the greatest threat to the Galaxy, Hive Fleet Leviathan joins the game as the sixth and final faction that will be available when the game is released. Feel free to wishlist the game on Steam and Pre-order it in the Apple Store to start playing as soon as Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge is released! Let’s learn all about the new faction.

The Nid to feed

Hailing from the cold, dark expanses of the intergalactic void, the Tyranids represent one of the most terrifying threats the Galaxy has ever faced. They stand as the ultimate predator, a xenos species set on devouring all matter, a swarm of hungry biohorrors who treat all living things as mere prey. The inhabitants of the Galaxy have experienced the threat that these invaders pose and realised that not stopping the numberless hive will mean nothing less than the extinction of all life.

Command Hive Fleet Leviathan with the Synapse trait

Neurothrope of Hive Fleet Leviathan

The actions of every single Tyranid creature are controlled by the Hive Mind, a nearly omniscient entity that binds the xenos species together. Some larger Tyranids are relatively autonomous and able to telepathically exert the Hive Mind’s will upon lesser bioforms, organizing the creatures into capable fighting forces.

In the game, the troop cards representing these creatures have the new Synapse trait. When a troop with Synapse is directly targeted by a friendly Stratagem, it will not only receive its effects but also replicate them on adjacent units. By surrounding a synaptic creature with other troops and protecting it, you will be able to triplicate the effects of friendly Stratagems and get the upper talon in combat!

Overwhelm the enemy with a gargantuan swarm

While other factions are able to field large numbers of troops, none comes close to the seemingly unending hordes of creatures unleashed during a hive’s invasion. Many troops in the Hive Fleet Leviathan collection have the Swarm trait. When a Tyranid troop with the Swarm trait is placed on the battlefield directly to the left of a troop with the same name, they will group together, becoming a single troop with their combined attack and health values.

The Swarm trait often comes hand-in-hand with Tide. After playing a troop with Tide, it adds another copy of this same troop to your hand that is only playable during this turn. There’s no safe haven against a Tyranid invasion, as even the smallest Termagant could become a titanic swarm ready to devour all. Commanding the Tyranids also means being aware of the state of battle, and adapting your strategy in the midst of it by choosing to either go wide or go tall with your troops.

These mechanics reflect the terrifying, relentless nature of the Tyranid faction, offering players the chance to experience the thrill of leading a Hive Fleet into battle. Mastering Synapse and Swarm and when to use them is key to dominating the board and establishing your prowess in Warpforge. Analyze the battlefield and your enemy, and determine if unleashing an overwhelming Swarm of Tyranids or spreading your forces to tackle many enemies at once will give you greater chances to attain victory!

Remember that you can still play the demo on Steam until June 1st, and pre-order the game on the Apple Store to start playing as soon as it releases! Prepare to link with the Hive Mind and organize a group of Tyranids into an effective fighting force in Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge. Bon appetit!
