Balance hotfix: the rise of the Astra Militarum is set back

About a month ago, the Militarum Tempestus Reinforcement Drop struck the battlefields of Warpforge for the first time. The main objective of this new content for the Astra Militarum was to reinforce the faction’s staying power and direct damage capabilities to allow a constant aggression game plan. This game plan, however, has raged across the ranked ladder like wildfire. The Astra Militarum’s representation has been overwhelming throughout the season, which brings us to today’s balance patch.

In Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge, we believe that diversity is a core component of a fun and engaging meta. Facing the same opponents repeatedly can make games feel monotonous, no matter the outcome. After examining the situation, we have decided to apply changes to a small batch of cards from the latest reinforcement drop. Take a look at the full list of changes below.

Astra Militarum

  • Vitus Gryf: Lowered Melee from 6 to 4, Ranged from 5 to 3 and Health from 6 to 4. Her Strike ability is now a Slay ability, bringing the description to “Flying. Friendly troops with Flying have Flank. Slay: Deploy a Tempestus Aquilon”.
  • Armoured Lighting: Increased cost from 5 to 6 and now grants Health instead of Armour. The description is now “Deploy three Tempestus Scion and give them Vanguard. If you control a Vehicle, give them +1 Health”
  • Valkyrie Drop: No longer grants Flank. The description is now “Deal 3 damage to an enemy. If the target dies, deploy a Tempestus Scion”

We are constantly monitoring the state of the game, so we will keep an eye on how the meta reacts after these changes. This update is an exception to our usual schedule—our goal is to implement balance changes at the start of each new competitive season, and only if they will bring something positive to the meta.
