Expansions are coming to Warpforge

Since the start of Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge, there have been two different ways we have introduced new content into the game: Faction Premieres and Reinforcement Drops. Next week, that will change with the arrival of the first expansion to the game: the Beast Snaggas expansion! Keep reading to find out how expansions will work in Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge.

What is an expansion?

Expansions are a new type of content drop that will heavily bolster an existing faction’s collection. They will bring into the game around 30 new cards plus 2 new Warlords, giving the expanded faction a new edge in battle.

These new cards will bring new traits, new mechanics and new ways to play your favourite factions! With next week’s expansion, the Beast Snaggas and Snakebite Klan join the forces of the Orks in battle. But how could the Snakebites be added to the Goff Orks collection? Won’t they just krump each other non-stop? Well, with orks, that is bound to happen regardless, but starting with this expansion, we are also tweaking how we define our factions.

Changes to existing factions

The world and stories of Warhammer 40,000 play a huge part in how our factions and cards are designed. In the end, we want players to truly feel like they are leading their favourite factions into battle, and each game to feel like an epic struggle between the two warring factions. However, some factions have proven to be more challenging to expand in ways that bring fresh, interesting new possibilities for them than others.

As we continue the development of Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge, some factions might be rebranded so as to fit exciting additions to their card collections more comfortably. This will be the case for the upcoming expansion. After the Beast Snaggas join the game, the Goff Orks faction will be renamed to Orks. This way, the Beast Snaggas and Snakebite characters that join the game will feel at home in their faction, and we will be able to introduce other Ork Klans into the game in the future.

Collecting the new cards

When an expansion is released, there will be a four-week-long event celebrating the new content just added to the game. At the start of the expansion, a total of 4 cards will be collectable only through alternative methods and will later join the list of collectable and craftable cards. While the Expansion release event is live, you will have multiple ways to collect the new cards:

  • Expansion Booster Packs: These booster packs will follow the same rules as the existing ones (5 cards, one of them guaranteed Rare or better), but they will guarantee that at least one card will be from the new expansion.
  • Regular Booster Packs: All-armies booster packs and the expanded faction’s original booster packs have a chance at yielding expansion cards.
  • In-game rewards: All random card rewards have a chance to yield a card from the new expansion. These include Campaign reward nodes, draft rewards, weekly crates, etc.
  • The Vault: The Vault is a new reward system that will open its doors for the first time soon! This will also be the way to collect 3 of the expansion’s cards before they become widely craftable at a later date. Stay tuned for more details on how this will work.
  • Expansion pass: During the event, a new reward track will be available, featuring in-game currency rewards, exclusive new cosmetics, booster packs and 1 of the expansion’s cards, which will only be available here until a later date. Check out below for more details on how it will work.

At the end of the Expansion event, crafting with wildcards will be enabled for all of the expansion’s new cards, including the 4 cards collectable through The Vault and the Expansion pass.

Expansion Pass

Each expansion will be accompanied by an Expansion Pass, featuring a new reward track themed around the new list of cards joining the game. The reward track can be advanced by simply playing the game, with each skull you earn in your multiplayer and draft battles contributing progress to the track. Every week, there will also be new additional missions that reward large amounts of progress, launching your track forward big time or allowing you to catch up before it ends.

With an optional Premium purchase, you will be able to make the most out of your Expansion Pass. Premium Pass holders will get an epic new Warlord as their very first reward and gain access to additional rewards as they progress through their track, such as exclusive cosmetics and a new Legendary card exclusive to the Expansion Pass until a later date. Also, they will earn 20% more track progress while the Expansion Pass lasts. The Premium Pass can be purchased with any of the supported currencies or exchanged in-game for 2850 gold.

New Forge rewards and more!

With every expansion that joins the game, the bolstered faction’s Forge will also grow larger. Each expansion will bring 5 more levels to the Forge, including exclusive rewards perfect to fill your collection and theme your deck around the new content!

Also, a new batch of cosmetics will become available right at the start of the expansion, so check out the in-game shop and the Webshop to bling out your account with the latest goodies. Stay tuned because even more of them will be making their way into the game through offers and promotions.

The first expansion of Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge arrives next week on April 3rd — prepare to enter a battle like never before!
